Matthieu Pavon, 42nd after the first round at the Paris 2024 Olympics: "I had never experienced that before"
A difficult first day for Matthieu Pavon, who returned a par card with only 2 birdies which places him in 42nd place.
How do you feel about this first participation in the Olympic Games?
MP: "I've never experienced that before. It was too much, too many emotions, too many people shouting your name. Really very special. I had to adapt to those emotions which made the day difficult. With every shot, every tee shot, every putt, everyone is pushing you, wanting you to succeed. It's not easy to manage all that, because it drains a lot of energy. I'm pretty happy with how I got through it, despite everything."
How were you received at the Golf National by the French?
"I've been to quite a few competitions since the Games started. I've seen what the Olympic atmosphere is like. But I was in the stands and not the centre of attention like today, which is different. You can feel how intense the atmosphere is when you walk up the steps to tee one. , it's phenomenal... And it was really, really hard to deal with."
Mathieu Pavon thanks all the French golfers for their support. He ends this interview with a single goal: Beat the course in the remaining 3 days.
